Coughs and colds!

Well, everyone seems to have a rotten cough at the moment, and now I have got one! Hubby is in work feeling rough but soldiering on, bless him, so I am going to get a few sketches done ready for painting and try not to talk too much…………. sets my cough off……… wouldn’t want to lose my voice!!!

We have had a few lovely bright, crisp, frosty days recently – so much nicer than dreary wet ones. Sitting in my Painting Shed watching the sunset is a beautiful thing. The sparrows have found our new next box too, so they are planning for Spring.

Right……….. now what to sketch out first I wonder…………

On a roll……………..

After the Christmas break, I found it a bit hard to get myself organised enough to start painting, Im afraid I do have to ‘be in the mood’, but then once I start there is no stopping me.
I now think my ‘mood’ has arrived and I have completed a painting today that I have been working on for the past 2 days, and I am rather pleased with it.

Have also nearly finished one I began last week, it just needs a few more shadows…. I have to look at it again in daylight first.   Shadows are scary things, they can be the make or break of a piece of work, and I do like shadows in a painting, as they bring it to life.

Happy New Year

Well, that’s another year gone by. Happy New Year to all of my customers and to customers to be!
I have produced a few sketches today, that will be worked on this week, and hopefully by the end of the week I will have a couple of completed watercolour paintings for my next exhibition.
Looking forward to getting back to my brushes after the Christmas break. Here’s to a Happy, Healthy and successful 2012. x

Frost and porridge!

What is it with cold frosty mornings? You think you ‘have’ to have porridge for breakfast! I dont particularily like porridge – as I dont really like milk, so when I do have it, it is disguised beneath honey or golden syrup and banana!
I think my dislike of milk comes from school-days, those pretty little glass bottles of milk, sitting in the crate waiting for break time, cream on the top and a little straw to poke through the silver foil lid. All sounded lovely, until you put your hand up at the end of the day, for the few ‘spare’ bottles of milk, that were still sitting in the crate, getting warm. Whatever possesed me to put up my hand to be chosen for that spare milk, I will never know. Maybe as a 5 year old, you felt special if you were chosen – a bit like getting a present!
Those presents often made me feel a bit sick and put me off drinking milk for life!
I do still like the thought of those little glass bottles though, and times gone by.
As for the frost, it looks pretty with the sun on it – will take some photographs for future painting reference as the morning winter skies are delicious! (unlike warm milk!)

Nearly Christmas

Apologies for not ‘Blogging’ for a while, I need to make a New Year Resolution to remember to blog a few times each week.
Christmas is almost here, not even got our tree up yet! I have a few commissions going out to lovely customers which will hopefully put big smiles on peoples faces this Christmas morning.
Cant put the images on here just yet…… shhh…. secrets!
I can pop on a painting I did recently for Christmas cards, of St. Peters Church in Carmarthen on a Winters Day.
We haven’t had any snow yet, but I feel it may soon be on its way.

Pets and cows

At the moment I seem to be painting lots of animals, watercolours, acrylics, gentle colours and bold.
I am thoroughly enjoying looking up the noses of wonderful cows and snuggly dogs! I may have a lot of fun cow portraits for sale this Christmas.
Website to be updated soon…………..
This painting is of a lovely girl called Mavis.

Autumn has arrived

Well, the leaves are falling from some of the tree’s showing that Autumn is upon us. We had a wonderful stroll through a woodland path yesterday morning and it smelt delicious!  Earthy, soily, damp leaved and just a delight to the nostrils! So, I do feel over the next couple of weeks a few Autumnal scenes may be coming out of my paintbrushes.

I the meantime, I really do have to get work together for my Christmas stall………..

Blogs!

I have come to the conclusion that I am rubbish at keeping my blog up to date! I have every good intention to keep at it, but life seems to get in the way of boring you all with trivial little things!
Managed to get my brushes out today and paint a little dog – commission for a gift. Hope they like it. Ridiculously windy again for September, my ‘shed studio’ is coming along nicely, so hopefully I will lock myself away and produce lots of fresh work before Christmas.

Commissions

Commissions seem to be a bit like buses….. you wait ages for one, then when you decide to do something else…. you are asked to do 3! One is for a family member and 2 are for small paintings, one for a childs bedroom. So, I have some work to do ….. for little money, but, it will be painting subjects that I enjoy.
This is one I did the other day…………

Funny old weather

What a strange August Day. Loads of rain in the night, black clouds all day, drizzle, cloud, then 4pm hot and sunny for half an hour, then clouded up as dark as night – then, low and behold 9pm clear blue skies as it is approached night time! Mad I call it! Summer I do not call it!
No painting done today, parents visited, lots of chatting and tea drinking going on…… tomorrow I hope to be more productive. I also have a veg patch to clear so I can plant my cabbages and turnips before its too late.

This painting is of Dale in Pembrokeshire. I did it a while ago and it has been along to my last exhibition and is still available for sale. The skies reminded me of the skies we had today.
